چکیده

Synchronous replication is highly desired in todays IT organizations as any data loss may have significant monetary effect on the organization. In synchronous replication every write is acknowledged before more data is replicated. Due to the speed of light limitation on information transfer and the typical two round trip SCSI write protocol, synchronous replication is usually limited to a 50 mile distance. Beyond such a distance the performance slowdown incurred by synchronous writing becomes prohibitive. Even customers who can afford maintaining a replica within a 50 mile distance, may have significant performance issues with synchronous replication. Synchronous replication is not only limited by the speed of light, but is also limited by the WAN bandwidth between the sites and the available storage bandwidth at the replica site. For example, if the WAN bandwidth is lower than the production bandwidth, performance of volumes replicated synchronously, will be limited to the bandwidth available by the WAN. The same is true for the replica storage bandwidth. If the current throughput available for the replica storage is lower than the available production throughput, synchronously replicated applications will slow down to the performance of the replica storage which may have different hardware. For some applications synchronous replication is desired, but low latency is significantly more important. In some cases there are temporal fluctuations in the importance of data loss. For example, many enterprises run batch operations and data warehouse operations, after working hours, or during weekends. The batch operations usually consume significantly more bandwidth than standard daily workloads, but produce less critical data, i.e., data lost during a batch operation can be easily reproduced. As opposed to synchronous data replication, asynchronous replication allows the system to continue replicating data remotely even if not all previous writes have been

Design and implementation of a synchronous and asynchronous-based data replication technique in cloud computing

Failures are usual rather exceptional in cloud computing environment. To access from the nearby site, the often used data should get replicated to multiple locations to compose the users to advance the system accessibility. A challenging task in cloud computing is to decide a sensible number and right location of replicas. At this point, we propose an adapted dynamic data replication approach t...

A dynamic analysis of the interplay between asynchronous and synchronous communication in online learning: The impact of motivation

With the increased affordances of synchronous communication tools, more opportunities for online learning to resemble face-to-face settings have recently become available. However, synchronous communication does not afford as much time for reflection as asynchronous communication. Therefore, a combination of synchronous and asynchronous communication in e-learning would seem desirable to optima...

Dynamic Asynchronous Logic for High Speed Cmos Systems

As transistor switching speed improves, synchronizing a global clock increasingly degrades system performance. Therefore, self-timed asynchronous logic becomes potentially faster than synchronous logic. To do so, however, it must exploit the techniques used in fast synchronous designs, including: redundant logic, inverting logic, transistor size optimization, dynamic logic, and phase alignment....

Synchronous and Asynchronous Multimedia and Iranian EFL Learners’ Learning of Collocations

The use of effective multimedia instructions such as mobiles, computers, and the internet in language learning has turned out to be useful since the last decades. The impact of multimedia and synchronous approaches of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) on English as a foreign language (EFL) learners' learning of language skills and components has been studied to some extent. However, th...

Oracle® Streams for Near Real Time Asynchronous Replication

Replication users typically have two very conflicting needs. They require the online transaction workload to proceed seamlessly, as if there was no replication. At the same time, they need the latency of the replica to be extremely small, or, in other words, near real time. Now, synchronous replication guarantees no latency, but it does so at tremendous cost to the transaction throughput and sy...
